In The Series
Lieutenant Jack Daniels
Rusty Nail is the third novel in the Jack Daniels series by JA Konrath. The intrepid Chicago detective is back and so is the Gingerbread Man. Someone is committing murders in the way that the Gingerbread man used to. That person sends Jack a videotape of them committing a murder. Now Jack must track down the new killer in an adventure that puts her and her partners life at risk.
My ReviewAlthough exciting and an entertaining read it feels like JA Konrath is rehashing the same old stuff. This is the third novel in which the Gingerbread Man has somehow appeared. This time there is a little more of a direct connection. I found myself working out who the killer was long before the ending.
On its good points Konrath's writing has developed and you can feel the inheritance from the American hardboiled detectives tradition of the USA. The tone of darkness is certainly conveyed through the writing. I would recommend reading this but don't expect too many surprises along the way.
